Markem-Imaje SmartDate X30 TTO Printer | 32mm Airless

Markem-Imaje SmartDate X30 TTO Printer - 32 mm Airless Coder

The SmartDate X30 is the smallest printer in the Markem-Imaje thermal transfer range: a single-box coder about 20 x 17 x 18 cm that mounts on a packaging machine and prints dates, batch codes and barcodes straight onto flexible film. It is built for low to medium speed lines where a 53 mm or 107 mm head would be overkill, and for OEMs who need a coder that drops into an existing frame.

The part that matters most on a busy line is what it does not need. There is no compressed air connection, no plant air to install, and no air pressure to drift over the years. Print quality stays where it was set.

Print Area - Read This Before You Buy

The X30 head is 32 mm wide. That gives a print area of 32 mm x 40 mm in intermittent mode and 32 mm x 100 mm in continuous mode, at 300 dpi. For a two-line date and batch code, a logo mark, or a 1D barcode, that is enough. If your layout needs a 53 mm wide block of text or a large QR code beside a full ingredient list, the X45 or X65 is the correct model - the X30 will not do it, and it is better to know that now than at installation.

Airless by Design

No air supply means no compressor, no dryer, no filter, no air line running to the coder. On a retrofit that is often the difference between a one-day install and a week of plumbing. It also means print pressure is set electronically and stays constant, rather than following the plant air pressure up and down through the day.

Ribbons

The X30 takes 22 mm and 33 mm ribbon in rolls up to 700 m, in the SmartDate Xceed, Xtra and Xpert grades. Radial and interlaced ribbon save modes cut the blank space between codes, which is where most of the ribbon on a short-code job is wasted.

What It Prints

Real-time clock, production and best-before dates with automatic rollover, shift codes, serial numbers, lot and batch codes, 1D and 2D barcodes including GS1, DataMatrix, QR and Composite RSS, logos and multi-line text. TrueType fonts are supported, including non-Roman characters. Shift codes and serial numbers advance automatically, and variable fields can be filled in at the printer.

Films and Applications

The X30 is specified for flexible film packaging: pouches, stick packs, seal bags, seal wrappers, high barrier films, metalised labels and decorative labels. Typical lines are snack food, confectionery, dairy, pet food, cosmetics, beverage and pharmaceutical.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the X30, X45 and X65?

Print head width and duty. The X30 uses a 32 mm head and suits low to medium speed lines with compact codes. The X45 and X65 use 53 mm heads for wider layouts, and the X65 is the model for heavy duty, high speed lines. The X65 is also available in a 128 mm version for full-width printing.

Will it run without compressed air?

Yes. The X30 is airless and needs no plant air at all, which is unusual for a TTO printer and is the main reason it is chosen for retrofits.

Can it be controlled from the packaging machine?

Yes. Print go is a hardware input, and RS232 and Ethernet are standard, so the line PLC can trigger the print and read fault and warning outputs. Up to 7 printers can be linked in a parent/child arrangement.
