Faint Print on One Side of an X40 — Adjust the Head, Don't Replace It

A code that prints sharp on one side and washed out on the other is rarely a printhead at the end of its life. On a SmartDate X40, it's usually the printhead sitting slightly off position — and the cure is a manual adjustment, not a new head.

When the head is out of position, one edge loses contact and the print fades across the code: dark where the head presses properly, pale where it doesn't. Before spending money on parts, open the unit and look at how the printhead seats. Adjust it manually until both ends meet the surface evenly, lock it down, then run a test code and read the print from edge to edge. Do that first — it costs nothing and it's often the whole fix.
